Alvin Ailey

when i used to dream about being a professional dancer, i didn’t picture a typical ballerina type.

yeah, i do love ballet and i have always wanted to go on pointe

but when it came to ballet, i imagined something like this…….

and when it came to dance overall, my dream was to be good enough to work with the greatest choreographer in the world: Alvin Ailey. unfortunately he passed away before i was born, so the next best thing would be getting to work with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

the first time i saw Revelations, i was speechless. i couldn’t move, i couldn’t take my eyes off the stage even after the performance was over. when i finally could talk again, all i could say was, “that. that is what i want to do for the rest of my life.”

and each time i’ve seen it since then—-i think I’ve seen it 7 or 8 times now—-my reaction is the same.

that is all.
